Greetings from the Wizards of the
North! Here is our
exciting double issue of Ring 158 (January and February)—what a way to
ring in the new year!! Our
new president, Michael “Orchid Man” Baker welcomed all
our members and guests in attendance to Ring 158’s first and second
meeting of the New Year. Our
Treasurer reports indicate that we are financially sound.
Now that IS a good
trick! Our topics included
the success of Ring 158’s annual Holiday Party, which was held at the
exquisite Lora’s Restaurant. Next
we discussed having a possible lecture this upcoming year and discussed
possible lecturers. Our
topics then leapt to updating the Ring 158 directory.
That is going to require a lot of work and the ring is always
looking for members willing to help.
Under new business we discussed the upcoming Magi-Fest in
Columbus
Ohio
. Ring 158 is always
represented well there, and this year will be no exception.
At least six members are expected to brave the cold and snow as
well as have a few members enter the competitions. Good
luck to Gregor “I’m not
going to Hooters” Strucaly and Mark “Why go to meetings” Strucaly!
Make us proud. Also,
our traditional Magi-fest delegates once again agreed to accept the
monumental task of creating this year’s theme calendar.
Thanx a lot!! On a
serious note, Lori Marcinik told us that her magical nephew Justin had
major surgery on New Year’s Eve and is doing very well.
Justin, we are all expecting a speedy recovery!
After a break, we went into the
performance segment of the evening. Mike
“Me” Mehalek served as emcee of the evening.
Our theme: Overpriced magic.
MM introduced “Just”
Jeff Vanderhoff
first, and Jeff demonstrated a nifty magic sparkler of some type.
Very cool, yes, and very overpriced.
Good job Jeff! “Groovy”
Gregor was our next performer, who demonstrated a wonderful
horizontal card rise. I
admit it fooled me, but then I realized at the price it cost, it should
fool everyone!! “Mad”
Mark Durigon next astounded us with his pet trick, the magic
moth! It definitely was not
worth every cent. “President”
Mike Baker blew us away with his appearing circle.
A will-o-the-wisp materialized before our eyes—holy cow, but
for $7.50, it’s overpriced. Finally,
“Captain” Chuck Rygle
entertained us all with a ring and rope routine.
The most over-priced piece of that effect were his jokes—haha.
Just kidding Chuck!
February’s theme was “Magic From
the Heart.” As emcee Chuck
Rygle introduced Dr.
Mick who demonstrated a baffling card trick using 11 cards.
The most amazing thing was that Dr.
Mick never looked at the faces of the cards.
Second to perform was myself, Magic
“I’ll eventually get a ring report done” Mike who
performed his rendition of the haunted key, using it as the “Key-o-to-his
heart.” Nice.
Finally Gregor did
a few card tricks. For the first
effect, the spectator’s card jumped from the deck.
In the second effect Gregor burned his fingers on a candle.
To everyone’s surprise the chosen card appeared as blisters on
his fingers! Great job Ring
158! Until next month POOF!
